For those unfamiliar with the different states, the cover being offered here originally had a trunk cover over it, but the trunk cover has been expertly removed to reveal the butcher cover underneath it. Professionally framed and mounted with a copy of the recall letter from Capitol Records. It is the quality of this peel that dictates its value. This is the mono version. The cover is in VG+ condition with a repaired partial split seam along the top seam that is only visible from the back (see photo).
The front cover, however, is a 99%+ perfect peel and displays beautifully. The front cover of course shows no wear, as it was protected by the original "trunk" cover prior to its professional removal.I looked the "butcher" cover over carefully, and I could not find any tears, missing pieces or touch-ups on the underlying butcher cover. For those familiar with the "peeling" process, you know that it is extremely easy to accidentally tear the underlying cover while attempting to remove the trunk cover. This is truly an expert peel, and it has become extremely difficult to find high quality peels without any damage to the underlying cover. The disc is not included, but we all know the value is in the cover. I will be including an original marigold-colored 1966 Capitol innersleeve. This particular cover is from the Los Angeles, California plant and has a "6" next to the RIAA seal. The cover was professionally matted and framed in 2002 along with a presentation copy of the Capitol Records recall letter signed by Ron Tepper (this is a high quality copy of the original letter and is not the actual letter). The frame measures 28"L x 19"H. In order to avoid damaging the cover, I had it mounted under the glass using clear plastic clips rather than having it taped into place. This is a beautiful display piece and is ready to hang. The only defect to note with respect to the front of the cover is the presence of residual discoloration along the right edge of the cover from the original glue rings used to hold the pasted over slick onto the original butcher cover. This is a unique feature of. Covers due to the type of glue used at this particular factory. As noted above, the cover is in VG+ condition overall with a repaired partial split seam along the top seam that is only visible from the back (see photo).
The back cover has some minor ring wear/discoloration, and a small faint water stain above the "TLE" in Beatles. There is a tiny water stain at the bottom right corner of the back cover, presumably due to the peeling process. The song "Yesterday and Today" is underlined and checked in blue ball point pen. The spine and seams show some wear, but most of the print on the spine is still legible.
Tape was used to hold the Capitol recall letter to the mat so it would not shift. If the letter is removed from the frame, there will residual tape on the back of the letter (keep in mind this is a copy of the letter and not an original letter). The back of the frame had to be opened in order to take additional photographs of the cover. Any framer can reseal the back of the frame. If you have any questions about this item, please contact me. Additional photographs are always available upon request.
